Breakaway Navigation is Alive!

Kittens looking through a fence with curiosity.

Since as far back as I can remember, I've been told that I ask a lot of questions. So, it's with this inquisitive mind and spirit that I am establishing this blog.

I figure that if I am a normal husband, father, son, and brother just living life exploring adventures, finding ways to be more financially literate, investigating strategies to help provide my kids with a jump-start in life and their careers, etc. then maybe there are a few others out there that may benefit from discoveries that I bump into.  These are discoveries that I unearth through conversations, observations, relationships, and the vast universe of information we all have access to, but sometimes find it difficult to translate into actions that we can take.

Perhaps you stumbled into Breakaway Navigation as a result of a conversation you and I had recently; or, perhaps it was the randomness of the Internet that landed you here.  Whatever the case, Welcome! I hope you find value in what I am sharing, and I hope that value is connected to something that makes your journey in life just a little bit better than the moments before we met.  With the words I write, and the paths I lay down, I hope you also feel it worth passing along for others to benefit as well. It is through this pay-it-forward, abundance mindset that we all are able to level-up and amplify our successes and the successes of those around us, however they are defined and in whatever context they are valued by you and those in your life.

An icon of a bike

The name "Breakaway Navigation" has its roots in road cycling. In college, I was introduced to the joys of road cycling, especially the road racing scene. While I lost touch with racing for around 20 years once my professional consulting career took hold, I am now back at it and loving every moment. When I started, it was all new. The riding, the routes, the racing, the wins, the close-seconds. As with many things in life when we are young and dumb, we don't realize the advancements that are happening to our minds and bodies when we are in the midst of it. I had little appreciation for just how far I could push my fitness, my mind, and my body to perform. Being in a race, and intuitively knowing when to join and work with others in a "breakaway" so as to increase my odds of winning a sprint just came naturally when I first started 20+ years ago. I took it all for granted. As I re-entered the racing scene at the age of 45, I found those instincts are muted. There is more hesitation, less certainty, and a reduced sense of confidence whether I can launch an attack that will stick or join a breakaway that it will navigate me to my goals and objectives.

As I reflected on my race results in 2021, and I took inventory of what was causing me to fall behind, to get dropped, and <ugh> to get "the whistle" to leave the race early and get out of the way of those that have their s%7@ together I began searching for solutions. Some of it can be addressed with equipment (technology), but most of my challenges are absolutely mindset and training.

So, is this blog just about my journey back into road cycling and racing? Absolutely not. While you will find articles pointing you to some awesome resources in that regard, what my reflections in cycling have done to me is opened my mind to what else in my life I can improve if I set my mind to it.  You will find articles that span a host of topics that can help you navigate your own breakaway, whether that be with personal finance strategies, financial literacy, setting your kids up for their own financial excellence, entrepreneurship, productivity enhancing products and services, and much more!

I appreciate you visiting my neck of the woods here at Breakaway Navigation, and I wish you the best in wherever your journey is taking you.
